Operations is the largest division of the Santa Fe Springs Department of Fire-Rescue (SFSFR) and is responsible for all emergency responses.  A total of 45 personnel are assigned to Operations, with 15 on-duty each day. Personnel are distributed between three shifts (A, B and C), and work a “48/96” schedule, which is two days (48 hours) on duty followed by four days (96 hours) off. 

The city staffs three engine companies, one truck company, one paramedic squad and one battalion command vehicle every day.  These units respond from four fire stations located throughout the city.

Fire-Rescue resources respond to approximately 3,200 calls for service per year, and strives for an arrival time within five minutes on 90% of those responses.

Dispatch for SFSFR is handled by Downey Fire Communications (DFC), located at Downey Fire Department headquarters. DFC handles all fire dispatching for Compton, Downey and Santa Fe Springs.

In addition to fire suppression, the operations division also consists of several specialized areas where firefighters receive additional training above the basic firefighting level.
