Environmental Protection Division
The Environmental Protection Division (EPD) was created to protect the public, workers and the environment from harmful exposures to hazardous substances through education, permitting and enforcement.  Since 1997, the EPD has been designated by the California Environmental Protection Agency as a Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA).  CUPAs were created to consolidate administrative oversight of six State and Federal hazardous materials and hazardous waste related programs under one agency.  These six programs are collectively known as the Unified Programs.  In addition to the Unified Programs, the EPD oversees industrial waste discharge to the sanitary sewer; storm water runoff from commercial/industrial facilities; investigates complaints involving hazardous materials releases; assists the Haz Mat team with hazardous materials incident responses; and manages the City's hazardous waste storage facility.

Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) 
The Santa Fe Springs Department of Fire-Rescue is one of 81 designated Certified Unified Program Agencies (CUPAs) in the State of California that have been given administrative oversight authority for the following six Unified Programs:

• Hazardous Materials Release Response Plan & Inventories (Business Plan)
• California Fire Code's Hazardous Material Management Plan & Hazardous Materials Inventory Statements.
• Hazardous Waste Generator and On-sight Hazardous Waste Treatment (tiered permitting) Programs.
• Underground Storage Tanks 
• Aboveground Petroleum Storage Tank Act
• California Accidental Release Prevention (CalARP) Program

  CalARP Public Notice - Pursuant to HSC 25535.2 and CCR 2745.2(c), notice is hereby given that the Risk Management Plan (RMP) are complete for the stationary sources as follows:        

Currently there are no RMPs under review by this Department.

Electronic Reporting
State law (AB 2286) now requires all regulated businesses to use the internet to electronically report and submit required Uniform Program information.  This includes facility data regarding hazardous material/waste regulatory activities, chemical inventories, underground and above ground storage tanks, and hazardous waste onsite treatment.  All regulated businesses in Santa Fe Springs must submit and report Unified Program related information through the statewide California Environmental Reporting System known as CERS.
