The Traffic Commission is comprised of five (5) voting lay members appointed by the City Council, with the City Traffic Engineer, the Chief of Police or his representative who shall be non-voting members of the Commission. The lay members shall annually select one of its members to serve as Chairperson and another member as Vice-Chairperson to act for the Chairperson in his/her absence.
The Traffic Commission is entrusted with making decisions and recommendations to the City Council based on studies and recommendations provided by the City Traffic Engineer for the following:
- Identify and develop alternative recommendations regarding issues of a policy nature.
- Assure the adequate consideration of community values and goals in the Commissions area of specialization.
- Provide a “sounding board” to blend technical solutions to problems with community needs.
- Enable consideration of various policy recommendations and alternative solutions to problems by a group of citizens.
