Commissions and Advisory Committees
The City Council is looking for civic-minded resident volunteers who are willing to serve on the various City Commissions and Committees. Committee service provides an opportunity for residents to participate in City affairs, provide input on policy decisions, and work with fellow citizens and City staff in shaping the future of Santa Fe Springs. Advisory Committee members serve to complete two-year terms, beginning on January 1, 2021, and ending on December 31, 2023.

All applications are maintained on file for six months. As vacancies occur on the various committees, the applicants are considered for appointment by the Council. Unless otherwise noted, committee members do not receive compensation for serving.

If you would like to be considered for a City Commission or Committee, you may complete an application and return it to the City Clerk’s Office. If you are selected to serve on a Committee or Commission, you will receive a Letter of Appointment in the mail. Any questions you have may be directed to the City Clerk or by calling (562) 868-0511, ext. 7314.

CITY COMMISSIONS

Planning Commission
Studies, approves, and recommends to the Council adoption of a general plan guide; considers and acts upon requests for zone changes and conditional use permits. The Commission approves tentative parcel and subdivision maps for the division of land in the City. Planning Commissioners receive compensation of $50 per meeting for up to two meetings per month. Candidates should have an interest in, and understanding of, the general planning process, zoning regulations, the granting of Conditional Use Permits, and the ability to comprehend parcel and subdivision maps.

2^nd Monday of the month - 6:00 p.m.

Traffic Commission
Serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council in matters relating to traffic control and public safety. Commissioners receive compensation of $50 per meeting for up to two meetings a month. Candidates should have an interest in traffic control and public safety.

CITY ADVISORY COMMITTEES

Historical and Community Preservation Advisory Committee
Previously known as the Beautification and Historical Advisory Committee, the Committee advises the Council on policy matters concerning beautification and preservation of the City. Candidates should have an active interest in promoting beautification of the City, including, but not limited to, an interest in landscaping and the aesthetic development of the City.

Family & Human Services Committee
Advises and recommends programs designed to meet the social needs of the City. Candidates should have an active interest in social services and an awareness of the needs of the residents. Professional or volunteer experience in social service management would be helpful, but not required.

Heritage Arts Advisory Committee
Advises on the collection of nationally recognized artwork throughout the City and aids in fundraising to support a range of artistic and cultural activities.

Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee
Advises on programs that best meet the recreational needs of the community; assists in policy formation regarding conservation and recreational activities. Candidates should have an active interest in sports, recreation programs and open-space preservation.

Senior Advisory Committee
Plans and conducts projects that will foster mutual understanding about Senior Citizens. Candidates must be 60 years of age or older with an active interest in Senior affairs.

Youth Leadership Committee Application for Youth Leadership Committee ONLY
Fosters greater involvement of youth in the community and municipal government. The committee studies problems, activities, and concerns of youth as they relate to municipal programs or projects of the City and recommends solutions to the Council. Candidates must be between the ages of 13 and 18 years. No more than 2 family members may participate on the committee during any term.
