The Code Enforcement Division promotes and maintains a safe and desirable living and working environment for the City of Santa Fe Springs. The Code Enforcement Division enforces the entire Municipal Code.  The following are some frequent enforcement items:

  • Hazardous property conditions
  • Garage conversions
  • Visible trash cans from public view (before or after trash day)
  • Illegal business operating from a residence
  • Overgrown vegetation
  • Inoperable and abandoned vehicles on private property
  • Signs, including signs in public right-of-way and signs without permits
  • Poor landscaping and property maintenance
  • Illegal land uses
    • Outside storage not screened or in required parking
    • Uses not permitted in the Zoning Code
    • Unpermitted construction
  • Substandard building conditions
  • Unsightly/deteriorated structures
  • Negative impact on the surrounding structures or the public

A Notice of Violation (warning) is issued to the property owner or tenant of each property with the violations, along with a prescribed date to correct the violations.  An Administrative Citation with a fine is issued for continuing violations.
