VOTING & ELECTION INFORMATION

GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS

THE NEXT GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION IS SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2024 FOR TWO (2) COUNCIL SEATS.

The City of Santa Fe Springs City Council consists of five (5) members elected to serve a four-year term. Each year the City Council reorganizes, selects one council member to serve as a Mayor and another as Mayor Pro Tem. 

CITY CLERK’S ROLE DURING ELECTIONS

The City Clerk is responsible for overseeing the administration of the City's General Municipal and Special Elections for City Council candidates and City Measures. The City Clerk's Office prepares the Candidates' Nomination Packet, administers the candidacy and nomination process and coordinates with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder County Clerk's Office to certify the election results. 

Requirements for City Council Candidacy

  • A citizen of the United States.
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Santa Fe Springs Resident
  • Registered to vote within the City of Santa Fe Springs

State Contribution Campaign Limits

The City of Santa Fe Springs does not impose local limits on campaign contributions.  As such, the state campaign contribution limit applies by default. No candidate may accept from a single source a campaign contribution totaling more than $4,900.00. This limit does not apply to a candidate's contributions of the candidate's personal funds to the candidates own campaign. VOTER REGISTRATION INFORMATION   ​

How & Where Do I Register to Vote?
You may register by completing a registration-by-mail form. Forms are available online at www.lavote.net or throughout Los Angeles at most county buildings, fire stations, libraries, banks, post offices, State Motor Vehicle Offices and Public Assistance Offices.

Do I Need to Re-register?
You must re-register to vote if you have permanently moved to a different address, changed your name, changed your signature or if you wish to change your political party affiliation. If you have not updated your signature for over ten years, it is highly recommended to re-register and update your signature. The deadline to re-register is also 15 days before the next election.

The Santa Fe Springs City Clerk's Office located in City Hall (11710 E. Telegraph Rd.) also has forms available.

ABSENTEE VOTING
Official Sample Ballot booklets include a printed absentee voter application on the back cover page.

  • Voters who wish to vote by absentee ballot must submit a written request for a ballot no later than 7 days prior to election day. If you will be unable to vote in person on election day, promptly complete and sign the application for an absentee ballot and return it to:

  • A letter request is acceptable if it identifies the election for which a ballot is being requested, contains the voter's name and signature, registered address and the address to which the ballot should be mailed.
  • The signature of each person asking for an absentee ballot is required in order to verify the legitimacy of the application.

Permanent Absentee Voter Status
Under state law, a voter may apply for permanent absentee voter status. As a permanent absentee voter, you will no longer have to apply for future elections. A ballot will automatically be mailed to you for each election in which you are eligible to vote. Please Note: As of January 1, 2006 and pursuant to SB 39, a voter’s name shall be deleted from the permanent absentee voter list if he/she fails to return an absentee ballot for two (2) consecutive statewide general elections.

VOTE EARLY

Registered voters may vote up to 29 days before Election Day during business hours at the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Office at 12400 Imperial Highway, Norwalk, CA 90650 in Room 3002.
