The Community Development Commission Board directs the activities of the Community Development Commission of the City of Santa Fe Springs (“CDC”). Since inception of the Redevelopment Agency (now named CDC) in 1966, the policies used in the formation of redevelopment project areas have consistently focused on areas that have obvious blighting characteristics and conditions. Since 1966, the Santa Fe Springs City Council has approved six (6) redevelopment projects areas, excluding amendments to existing areas, in accordance with the Health & Safety Code. As a result of merger actions, the CDC now oversees two redevelopment project areas, the Consolidated Redevelopment Project Area and the Washington Boulevard Project Area, consisting of 3,450 acres and 55 acres respectively. The CDC has consistently pursued redevelopment activities in careful accordance with the Community Redevelopment Law of the California Health & Safety Code and has been successful at blight elimination by redeveloping several brownfield areas into high quality industrial business parks, commercial/retail, and residential projects.

The CDC has facilitated critical public improvements and transportation infrastructure, affordable housing, and highly acclaimed parks and recreation projects. These efforts have improved the city’s quality of life, added to the city’s urban design and streetscape quality, and ultimately improved the overall economic development potential in the city and region. The CDC has been successful in implementing several affordable housing projects and programs for new construction, preservation, and rehabilitation, including an award winning 144 unit senior housing project known as Little Lake Village.

One of the major industrial projects known as Golden Springs Business Center won the 2005 California Redevelopment Association Award of Excellence for Brownfields Development. This project converted a 265 acre refinery into 5,000,000 square feet of Class A, mixed-use industrial and commercial building space.
